EEA European Economic Association
The Euro- pean Union and EFTA agreed on an alliance - the European Economic Association (EEA).
As of mid-2007, the EEA consisted of the 27 member states of the European Union and the EFTA countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
In a referendum, Switzerland's citizens chose not to participate in the EEA.
Rather, Switzerland is linked to the European Union by Swiss-European Union bilateral agreements, with a different content than that of the EEA agreement.
